Students complete a series of nationally recognised units of competency that combine practical laboratory skills with essential scientific knowledge and workplace procedures for the laboratory industry.

Assessment Methods

Assessment includes practical tasks, projects, observations, and written questions

Scored assessment is available for students undertaking the Units 3 and 4 sequence of the VCE VET Laboratory Skills program.

Pathways

This qualification opens pathways into laboratory assistant and technical support roles in industries such as pathology, medical testing, environmental science, and manufacturing. 

Further education pathways include CMSL40122 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, MSL50122 Diploma of Laboratory Technology, and higher education courses in laboratory science, biomedical science, environmental science, biotechnology, and related STEM fields.


Timetable

The course is delivered over two years with structured weekly classes.

Year 1 classes are conducted on Wednesdays.

Year 2 classes are conducted on Thursdays.
