Student Information

USI

As of 1 January 2015, all students undertaking nationally recognised training are required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). The USI is part of a Council of Australian Governments initiative to improve the collection and use of data on nationally recognised training. It is supported by Commonwealth legislation, the Student Identifiers Act 2014.

The Australian Government introduced in January 2015 a new way for learners undertaking nationally recognised training to be able to find and collate their Vocational Education and Training (VET) achievements in one place.

What is a USI?

The USI is a reference number made up of ten numbers and letters that:

  • creates a secure online record of your recognised training and qualifications gained in Australia, from all training providers you undertake recognised training with
  • will give you access to your training records and transcripts
  • can be accessed online, anytime and anywhere
  • is free and easy to create and
  • stays with you for life

To get a USI go to www.usi.gov.au. It takes approximately 10 minutes. When applying make sure you have some identification on hand to verify who you are as you go through the application process.  Examples of ID include passport, Birth Certificate, drivers licence or Medicare card. Creating a USI is free.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills

The courses delivered by CRCIT require all students to complete a language, literacy and numeracy assessment to ascertain each student’s abilities. Students require a certain level of language, literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to be successful in achieving their study outcomes. Students may be required to submit papers and/or assessments that require general Maths and English.

The results of the LL&N assessment will be used to assist in determining that each student has the required LL&N level, as well as enable CRCIT to plan to provide some additional assistance where required. For students from CRC Sydenham that require extra support, assistance is available via the student services department  For students from the federation schools or the BVC, assistance will be sought via the home school following communication from the trainer,

Please note: It is a requirement all learners take the LLN test prior to enrolment in the course.
